everyone has one of these: an image, a sentence, a joke - it doesn’t matter which - that, irrespective of what situation they are in, if they think of it, they will laugh. and i don’t mean that mild oh-dear-boss-you-think-you-are-funny- but-you-are-not kind of smirk/snigger. i mean the out and out, literal ROTFL kind of laugh. the one that will make people question the tightness of various screws in your head.
and there need be no justification for this reaction in a person. infact the joke could be so lame as to not even evoke a smile in others, but i guess that’s what makes each of us unique (and after this, you just know that i am nothing if not unique!)
so what is it for me? surprisingly, it’s a stupid anantha vikatan cover-cartoon that ran years ago. it pictures a middle aged man walking back from the vegetable market and there are coconuts rolling all over the ground. another person is yelling out - “hey, look what you are using instead of a shopping bag!” and on closer inspection it turns out the man is holding onto the shoulder straps of a cut-banian!
(pause, while i finish ROTFL)
last week in the gym, i had almost finished my second set of hammer curls , when, for no apparent reason, the image of coconuts rolling on a market floor entered my mind and a couple of uncontrolled convulsions later, 30 pounds of iron came crashing onto my foot. thankfully, i was wearing a cut-banian style t-shirt - no, not that it helped with the pain - but atleast, i could appreciate the irony.
