Exact Opposite

Exact Opposite is simply a page listing my observations of how so many problems in life are really best solved by using the exact opposite of common-sense/common-knowledge or conventional methods.

The idea came about in the shower (accept it - that’s where you get the very best brainwaves) when I realized I was going at it all wrong with my shampoo bottle …

Shampoo Bottle
Problem: Extract the very last molecules (ok puritans, I know shampoo is not a compound, but just work with me here) of shampoo from the bottle without cutting it open.
Conventional Wisdom: Turn the bottle up-side down and tap downwards on the base (bottom) of the bottle.
Exact Opposite Solution: Turn the bottle upside-down and tap upwards on the cap (top) of the bottom. Thanks to Newton’s First Law, the shampoo inside the bottle remains in place even as the bottle jerks upwards - sending the shampoo ever closer to the cap and eventually out the cap.
